The lights trainer

Fifteen night situations in a row: what vessel is that and who gives way. The aspect is part of the question.

How it works

A trainer situation: the night scene and the options

1Open “Learning → Lights trainer” (the button is also in the lights catalogue and in a rule card).

2On the black scene there are only lights, as at sea: colour and relative position, with no hull and no hints. The caption gives the aspect — bow, port, starboard or stern — and it decides which lights are visible.

3Choose an answer. A right one replies with a soft tap, a wrong one with a warning.

4If you do not know, tap “I don’t know, show the breakdown”: that is more honest than guessing, and it is recorded as not knowing rather than as a mistake.

The breakdown

After the answer comes the explanation: what the vessel is, which rule defines it and who gives way to whom. The button leads to the text of the rule.

The result

At the end you get the score, a verdict (“Excellent”, “Enough for the exam, not for the night”, “Too early”) and the mistakes split by topic. If the mistakes cluster in one topic, the trainer says so and offers lessons on it. The answers feed the shared “Progress”.

The trainer is free and works offline.
