What is on the screen
From top to bottom:
1The status line — “Recording”, “Not recording” or “No link to the phone”.
2Speed in large digits in knots, with the heading in degrees.
3Wind — an arrow pointing where it blows to, with knots and the compass point.
4Miles and under way — two tiles.
5A full-width button: “Start” and the track is being written, “Stop” and the passage is closed.
A dash instead of a number means there is no data: the phone has not sent a snapshot yet, or it has lost GPS.
How it is tied to the phone
The phone sends the watch a snapshot of the state every five seconds while recording, and once a minute at rest. The button on the watch triggers exactly the same action as the record button on the passage screen, so you get one passage rather than two.
While recording, the app on the phone works in the background — the screen can be off. If the phone has been unloaded by the system, after a minute the watch says honestly “No link to the phone” and dims the button: it cannot write a track on its own.
Language
The watch speaks the language chosen in the app on the phone. Until the first snapshot it uses the watch’s system language.
